The Aspinall Foundation are a world-class animal conservation charity, dedicated to protecting endangered animals around the globe. We were founded in 1984.<\/p>
We are best-known for groundbreaking captive breeding and reintroduction projects with species including gorillas, cheetahs and black rhino.<\/p>
Our teams in the UK and around the world have returned more than 200 captive-born animals to protected areas of their natural habitats to date. We have also rescued, rehabilitated and released hundreds more animals in-situ.<\/p>
We manage vital conservation projects in South Africa, Madagascar, Indonesia, Congo and Gabon. We are also proud to protect a 1,000,000-acre area of gorilla habitat on the Bat\u00e9k\u00e9 Plateau.<\/p>
Our two partner animal parks, Howletts near Canterbury and Port Lympne, near Ashford, work closely with The Aspinall Foundation and as such, are very different from conventional zoos.<\/p>
Our partner parks lead the way in animal care, enclosure design, enrichment and breeding success and are designed to be breeding sanctuaries for some of the world\u2019s most rare and endangered animals.<\/p>
The exceptional levels of care at Howletts and Port Lympne speak for themselves; together, they are world leaders in the captive breeding of clouded leopards, Javan langurs, western lowland gorillas and African hunting dogs. The parks are also the top breeder in the UK of African elephants, Javan gibbons, eastern black rhino, Debrazza monkey and grizzled leaf langurs.<\/p>
This breeding success allows us to work with our partners on truly trailblazing rewilding projects across the globe.
